KON TIKI: IMPRESSIVE MAGNETIC SOUND IN 16 MM

A few years ago, the great Alberto Vangelisti reinstated  the magnetic striping technique with "slurry" or paste liquide (for both triacetate and polyester films) in all film formats: 16 mm, Super-8, 35 mm and even 9.5 mm. The quality of Movie Magnetic tracks is extraordinary: they are completely smooth and uniform, without variations in width, in a know-how that combines technology from our time with old technology of the beginning of the fifties, and artisanal tricks, transmitted by the former owner of the laboratory. These magnetic tracks striping techniques,  throughout the world, in its immense and unfathomable roundness, only Alberto dominates with expertise.

In 16 mm, and following my instructions, Alberto developed a system that allows two half tracks to be applied on each edge, so that the original optical track can also be read. This is very useful to me because it allows me to have, in 16 mm, the films in two languages, one with optical sound, and the other with high fidelity magnetic sound.

Both tracks, optical and magnetical, can be projected in two lenguages, that is the case, Spanish and English

For the sound re-recordings, Alberto works with a professional sound engineer, the no less great Guido Melis, who, as he also works vocationally, is capable of achieving achievements that not even I myself could do.

This has been the case with the dubbing adaptation of "Kon Tiki," the original Oscar-winning documentary from 1950. The version that was dubbed in Spanish has less footage than the original film released for American theaters and universities, which It is the one that will be shown at the Sellier Film Festival. Guido Melis has done an exquisite job, out of mere friendship, because something like that, with so many hours, cannot be paid for in any way. For example, in certain points where the Spanish version had less footage than the original, Guido filled the spaces with the same background music used by the Spanish version, with such experience and mastery that it is now understood that he works in a well-known Italian university for the production of its scientific audiovisuals. Many thanks to Guido, and also, as always, to Alberto, of Movie Magnetic fame! FORZA ITALIA!!!
