HOW TO CLEAN SUPER-8 REELS.

In Spain, we are lucky because there is still a manufacturer of super-8 reels (AP )and, therefore, you can get them here at a quarter of the price at which they are sold in Germany (and with an extra discount if you are a professional). 

However, as my interest was always to recycle, back in the day, when I replaced plastic reels with the best reels in the world, those made of aluminum by Julio Castells in Barcelona, I stored the plastics in the garage for years. 

After the washing: better than new!

When, over time, I pick them up, they need a good cleaning, as they are stained, dusty and damp. Washing them by hand is slow, doesn't fit well, and consumes a lot of water. The solution is very simple: use the dishwasher. 

VERY IMPORTANT: you have to be careful that the temperature does not exceed 40 degrees Centigrade because, with very hot water, reels are deformed and ruined. They come out very clean, shiny and almost dry. Before using them, I let them air dry for a few hours. 

This system is suitable for plastic reels but is not recommended for aluminium reels, which come out of the dishwasher with little shine.
