WHEN THE ZC1000 WAS JUST A DREAM OF SHIGEO MIZUKAWA...

When the best movie camera, the never sufficiently praised ZC1000, was still in the project phase on Shigeo Mizukawa's desk, already in March 1972 it caught the attention of Peter Dean, from the British magazine FILM MAKING, who wrote (sic):

Zooming in on the hardware scene, we come up with an interesting camera that Fuji brought out in Japan as part of the Single-8 system. It looks as though somebody has been carefully studying the Beaulieu 4008 ZM because they have produced --on paper at least -- the latter´s spitting image. The new Fuji Single-8 8Z 1000 (even the name sounds similar) will accept interchangeable lenses from 16 mm cameras in standar C-mount, has a mirror shutter, and pulse outlet for syncronised sound. One intriguing feature which I can´t wait to see is said to be an interchangeable reflex viewfinder. Now that´s something the Beaulieu hasn´t got (or any other 8 mm camere for that question), although the Beaulieu does go some way towards it by having a ground glass focusing screen which you can switch in or out of the finder. And, of course, the Fuji offers all the well-known advangages of the Single-8 cartridge: accurate film transport, ability fo reverse any amount of film at any stage of filming, precission pressure plate. Final Fuji trump card is ther new Super 10x zoom, from 8 to 80 mm (...)

Anyway, I believe Fuji have wisely set out to capture some of the professional market with their new model? It does seem more logical to use Single-8 than Super-8 professionally. If only the could  (a) make an even thinner base and double the running time of the cartridge; (b) bring out a fast colour film, and (c) call that colour film Kodachrome, all might be swept before them.

FELICIDAD ANTES DEL BREXIT: ¡¡¡LA COLECCIÓN COMPLETA DE FILM MAKING!!!

Actualmente, el mercado mundial en lengua inglesa cuenta con una revista, profesionalmente editada en papel de lujosísima calidad, https://photoklassik-international.com/, que en cada ejemplar dedica varias páginas al cine en pasos estrechos. 
En el pasado reciente, existieron, sin embargo, varias (además de fanzines): Super8 Today, Schmall film, Making Better Movies o The Big Reel. A todas ellas estuve suscrito y conservo todos sus ejemplares. 

En el pasado mas lejano, antes de la crisis,  tuve la suerte de ir consiguiente las colecciones completas de Movie Maker y su antecesora Amateur Ciné World ¡desde los años cuarenta hasta finales de los ochenta! También, entre otras, la colección completa de la estadounidense Super8 Filmaker. 

Una revista que se me resistía, sin embargo, era la británica Film Making, de la que sólo tenía número sueltos. Gracias a Robin Palmer, miembro del grupo de Facebook que admininistro, Super 8mm ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/27648968851/ ). el mas grande del mundo, y antes de que el Brexit incompresiblemente cierre con un telón de acero las queridas islas británicas (a las que el resto de Europa debe su libertad),  me llegaron tres grandes paquetes con la colección completa de Film Making, además, ¡encuadernadas!, que habían sido propiedad de su padre: ¡como muchos ingleses, encontraron en España el mejor hogar para su edad madura! Gracias a esta colección, mi esposa ya se puede ir despidiendo de mí por las noches...

Ahora, para morir feliz, sólo me queda completar la colección de una revista de culto norteamericana, especializada en efectos especiales de bajo presupuesto.

COMIENDO CON "FILM MAKING"

Cuando en casa me veo en la circunstancia de comer sólo, en lugar de hojear el periódico o navegar con el teléfono, aprovecho para leer alguna de las revistas sobre técnica cinematográfica de la hemeroteca de la Cinemateca de Galicia-IB Cinema, en una colección que se remonta hasta mediados de los años cuarenta.

El almuerzo de hoy fue particularmente delicioso, leyendo un ejemplar de Film Making ¡publicado en agosto de 1972! (uno tenía 12 años en aquel entonces).

Artículos muy interesantes y anuncios verdaderamente curiosos. Siempre es muy agradable recordar informaciones que, muchas veces, son olvidadas por los historiadores especializados: 
1) ¿Cuántos saben hoy que en 1972 se vendían cartuchos de súper-8 con película inversible de ByN ¡¡¡de 500 ASA!!!?;

2) ¡Qué bonitos, los proyectores Heurtier estereofónicos, comercializados años antes de que fueran desarrollados por la competencia japonesa;

3)  Maravilloso el anuncio sobre la bien dotada cámara de súper-8 Elmo 110;

y 4) Para el postre, la lectura de un completo estudio técnico, de apretada prosa, sobre la cámara de súper-8 Canon 814 E, en aquellos tiempos con su recientemente desarrollada versión electrónica.
