SANKYO 800 STEREO: MOTOR DRIVE BELT CHANGE AND FINE ADJUST OF SPEED

The Sankyo 800 Stereo is a projector that was very popular in many countries, such as Spain, England and the United States, thanks to its affordable price, its reliability, its 150W lamp, its careful treatment of films and the excellence of its optional lens with f 1.0 aperture.

Since the original motor belt is very expensive, I replaced it with an O-ring of the same caliber and diameter,  that is sold in my city, five minutes from my workplace, for less than a euro!

The problem to solve is how to pass the new belt to its pulleys if there is no space? Very easy: you have to remove the two screws marked in red in the photo. This allows that piece to tilt slightly, leaving enough space to place the new strap.

When an original belt is not used, it often happens that the speed of the projector varies slightly, as in this case. So, before placing the cover, you must do what is described below. 

On this projector the fine adjustment, for both 18 frames per second and 24 frames, is located on the front, on the right side of the lens area (a magnificent f 1.0 on this unit, by the way), as indicated in the photo. Very important: to adjust these small potentiometers you must use a plastic or wooden screwdriver as a metal screwdriver can cause a serious short circuit of the electronic control unit.

Fine adjustment is controlled by Renzo's strobe device: when the teeth of the toothed rollers, under the strobe light, appear to be motionless, that is the correct speed. More information about Renzo's device can be read here: RENZO STROBOSCOPIC UNIT

If you do not have one of these devices made by Renzo, the adjustment must be done listening a sound movie (but it´s a bit subjective)

TRANSFERENCIA DE PISTA: PROYECTORES RECOMENDABLES. SANKYO STEREO 800 (3)

En esta serie de artículos, del cual este es la tercera entrega, nos estamos ocupando de aquellos proyectores que permiten la transferencia sonora de pista a pista a pista sin necesidad de cables, y con alta calidad.

Fiabilidad y rendimiento con un muy digno zoom f 1.0 

El Sankyo Stereo 800, pese a su apariencia y precio modesto, es otro de los modelos que se puede recomendar sin reserva para esta finalidad. La máquina es fiable, resistente, fácil de encontrar (al menos en España), amable con las películas (que se pueden desenhebrar en cualquier parte del metraje), y sus cabezales son del tipo Sendust, capaces de sonorizar miles de kilómetros de película sin desgaste audible. 

En este caso, la transferencia este programada de la pista 1 para grabar en la 2, cuyo diodo se enciende.

Este Sankyo Stereo 800 es del último tipo distribuido, con una excelente óptica de luminosidad f 1.0, fusibles y cierre de seguridad para el compartimento de la lámpara (que es la muy deseable de 150W). 

Si los proyectores europeos presentan profusión de teclas para cada función, como vimos con el Eumig 938, la filosofía japonesa es muy distinta. En el Sankyo 800, todas las configuraciones de transferencia de pista se regulan desde un único mando con dos botones giratorios superpuestos. A la izquierda del proyector, el botón inferior delantero selecciona la modalidad de monofonía, estereofonía o transferencia de pista. Si se desea transferir, una vez seleccionada esta opción en el mando delantero, con el mando posterior hay que elegir la pista 1 o 2. 

Si no se usa a menudo, puede ser un sistema un tanto confuso, pero la máquina indica al operador con un diodo luminoso emisor de luz cual de las dos pistas recibe la transferencia.
