One of the advantages of the ZC1000 motion picture S8 camera (both in the normal and the New version) is that this model has, in three different places, three tripod threads, one of them in an unusual place: the upper accessory socket. This socket has several uses: it can be used to place the intervalometer, the self timer device, a telescopic microphone or, among others accesories, an extendable grip that is very useful for special filming, such as the camera advancing at ground level behind a cat (with the wide angle 5.5 mm small EBC lens) or from outside the deck of a ship (also with the wide angle).
The problem is that, with use and decades, these upper accesories sockets tend to become loose, to have some "slack" that, if not fixed, will get worse. Many filmmakers think that there is no solution or that it is very complicated, since it would entail disassembling the camera. Nothing is further from reality!
Unlike other cameras, everything in the ZC1000 was conceived by its creator, Shigeo Mizukawa, to be easily removable and repairable, despite the higher manufacturing cost. In this case, my friend José Manuel removed the small black trim plate from the upper accesory socket, and thus he has access to four screws: you just have to tighten them, add a drop of special glue to fix the screws, and replace the trim plate. Presto! The upper accesory socket is now ready for another 25 years of intensive use.
- IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR THOSE FILMMAKERS WHO WISH TO INCORPORATE SUPER-8 INTO THEIR PROFESSIONAL OFFER:
For those readers in the professional field who believe it is convenient to offer Super-8 in their service portfolio, I always recommend Pro 8mm, the same provider used by Steven Spielberg, Spike Lee or J.J. Abrams.
My recommendation is proven: it certainly makes me proud to work with Phil and Rhonda Vigeant, whose efforts on Super-8 have been recognized by the ASC.
At Pro 8 mm they serve in Spanish and English, in the following link, and shipping to Europe takes only 3 days!
