ACW, JUNE 11, 1964. IVAN WATSON: THE GODFATHER OF SUPER-8

Before this wonderful film gauge that has been with us since 1965 was christened by Kodak, it was named as Super-8 by the British columnist Ivan Watson, but when?

Searching through my magazine film library, I found the issue of Amateur Ciné World in which Ivan Watson mentioned the name Super-8 for the first time in a professional print media: the June 11, 1964 issue (at that time, the magazine was weekly!!!, every Thursday).

Uncle Ivan Watson wrote: "It´s justo possible that, over a long period, a new Super-Eight gauge could make head-way among serious amateurs. It´s equally possible that the Madison Avenue boys, scenting raw prey, will try to indoctrinate the American public into the belief that, to be "with it", you´ve got to use the new Super-Eight"

Very nice advert at the end of the article of Ivan Watson: the publishers of the magazine were looking for a journalist specialized if small gauge film making! My God, what a job: the Heaven on Earth!!!
