The DS 810 MT Quartzmatic is a great projector. One day I will tell its story, as it was told to me during my visit to Japan in 2005. In reality, it is the Fujicascope SD20 modified so that it cannot use either Fujinon lenses or 360-meter reels.
810 now with 360 meters reel and Fujinon 1.0 14-28 mm lens |
But these changes can be reversed, as I demonstrated about twenty years ago, with my two units. Four decades later, my friend José Manuel repeats this task for ULTRA 8, the Spanish film distributor that in 2024 has begun, for the international market, the production of new Super-8 positives, in several languages, with an image and sound quality never seen before, and which will be presented at the VIII edition of the SELLIER FILM FESTIVAL, this December 2024, in La Coruña (Galicia, Spain).
Modification to accept big reels |
The two modifications are not extremely difficult but require a equipped workshop, technical expertise, patience and the skills of a cardiovascular surgeon, since an error of one micron when carving the groove in the lens barrel can render it useless.

IN SUPER-8, HOW IS IT POSSIBLE? WHERE TO BUY SUPER-8 ITEMS?
I always recommend the same store that use Steven Spielberg, Spike Lee or J.J. Abrams, among other big names of film industry: Pro 8 mm, in Los Ángeles.
The owners, Rhonda and Phil, are the inventors of the Max-8 format, which provides aformat of almost 1.85, instead of the traditional Academic one with standard Super-8 film.
Staff speaks Spanish too, and the shipping to Europe takes only 3 days!:
