On motion film 16 mm projectors, the normal lens has a 50mm focal length. However, personally, I prefer to use the Swiss-made Kern 32-65mm variable focal lens, because is suitable for most situations; and it´s tack sharp!

But when I have to project in a school classroom, then I use the wide angle zoom from 25 to 45m. In special situations, in Museums, such as close-range rear projection, I use the 10mm Isco.
Long distance projection |
For long-distance projections, I always put in the projector the Isco 75mm. But there are situations when the screen is really far away and, as it happened at the Paris Theater, of La Corunna, a couple of weeks ago, its size is small. In such circumstances there is no choice but to use the rare Canon Cine Star zoom, with a focal range of 65 to 105 millimeters!!!
Glorious Canon 65-105 mm: very rare in Europe and the only one in Spain |
This lens, owned by IB Cinema, is unique in Spain. I bought it at the Fumeo factory in Milan during the late eighties. It was designed by Canon for Hokushin, a Japanese firm represented in Italy by Fumeo (for those who made, with special specifications, the channel-loading Fumeo models).
