"From Grain to Pixel" (in Spanish, "Del grano al píxel"), was the title of one of my lectures two years ago. But now is the title of the very interesting book write by Giovanna Fossati, curator at the Nederland Film Museum and teacher at the University of Amsterdam (in fact, the book is published by Amsterdam University Press).
Film is in a state of rapid change, wth the transition from argentic to digimerde profoundly affecting not just filmmaking and distribution, but also the theoritical conceptualization of the medium film and the practice of film archiving.
Giovanna Fossati does more than simply give the most thoughful, thorough and up-to-date account to the transformation in motion pictures archiving over the last decades. She forces us to reconsider the nature of the moving image and prepare for a new era of communication and preservation.
